About

behavior rehabilitation services

Neglect, abuse, and moving from home to home creates complex trauma for kids in foster care.  They have had to overcome difficult life experiences at a young age, and sometimes, this is expressed through challenging behaviors. Washington state acknowledges that some kids need extra support through a Therapeutic Foster Care Program from a private agency like Youthnet.

Comphrensive Support

Behavioral Rehabilitation Services (BRS) offer a temporary (8-12 months) but intensive support program designed to help youth with high-level service needs. These services address the normal behavioral responses to trauma and frequent relocations that many foster children experience. BRS provides wraparound supports, including behavioral intervention, counseling, and stabilization services, all aimed at helping youth recover and thrive.

Enhanced Commitment & Training

BRS involves a higher level of commitment from foster parents, who receive additional training to meet the complex needs of these children. Although it demands more from foster families, BRS also offers extensive support services, making the foster care experience more manageable and rewarding. This therapeutic foster care model ensures foster parents are well-equipped to provide the best care possible.

Focused Goals for Permanency & Stability

The primary goals of BRS are to keep youth safely in homes with comprehensive support, facilitate quicker reunification or alternative permanency, and prevent the need for more restrictive placements. By transitioning youth to permanent homes or less intensive services sooner, BRS helps reduce the length of time children spend in care.
