About

independent living

The IL Program is a voluntary program for current or former foster youth, aged 15 through 22, who would like to receive supportive case management to establish and achieve goals in various areas of their lives.

Comprehensive Support

The Independent Living program offers a wide range of services designed to help young people transition from being in foster care to living on their own. These services include daily living skills training, educational support, career exploration, vocational training, and employment assistance. Additionally, the program aids in establishing stable and healthy personal connections, ensuring holistic development and independence.

Eligibility

Young people must have an established dependency through the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) for 30 days or more after their 15th birthday, and before they turn 18 or be a part of a tribal welfare agency. Once eligibility is reached, if individuals have returned home or entered a permanent guardianship, they remain eligible for the program.

Flexible Referral Age

Youth can self-refer to the IL program starting from age 15 up to their 23rd birthday, allowing them to access these critical support services at various stages of their young adult lives. This flexibility ensures that even older youth who are in need of assistance can benefit from the program's resources and support.

Service Areas

Serving young people who are living in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish and Whatcom counties.
